According to a study published in 2026, the landscape of American neighborhoods is undergoing a transformation as more Black individuals relocate from urban centers to suburban areas.

In 1970, nearly half of Black individuals lived in large cities, but by 2020, this figure had decreased to just 25%.

Conversely, the proportion of Black individuals residing in suburban regions has seen a substantial rise, climbing from 16% to 36% during the same period.
